Hung Out to Dry

I just love the exaggerated shape, size, and profile of the Angel’s Trumpet bloom. In this painting I wanted to showcase the parachute-like textures, super-sized shapes, intense detail, and shimmering color of this unique plant. I had such a good time painting Hung Out to Dry—and spent so much time doing so—I nearly called this painting “Sheer Insanity.” What I really love about this painting is that at first glance it seems monochromatic, but as you look closer, there’s an incredible interplay of pinks, purples, blues, and greens that comprise each flower and water droplet. This is a painting that reveals new things each time I look at it.
